Many of the values of our society are similar to those during the age of the Roman Empire. Striving for power and material possessions at the expense of the poor and weak is still very common today. Living into the teachings of Jesus—living moral lives when it seems that is not profitable; considering others above ourselves; creating systems that protect and empower the helpless—are strange concepts to many people. Living according to Christ’s teachings is what God requires of us, in spite of the fact that we will find ourselves in conflict with those who do not agree with our lifestyle choices. And sometimes, the wind of the Holy Spirit keeps the fire burning to make a space for something new.
