Do you think of a peacemaker as one who strives for an absence of conflict? Nothing could be further from the truth. A peacemaker strives for shalom…harmonious cooperation aimed at the welfare of all. To make peace includes reconciliation and not mere avoidance of conflict. Shalom replaces an unjust peace. Peace is not the same as order. To make peace does not mean keeping the peace. Peacemaking recognizes that non-violent tension is necessary for growth toward God’s Kingdom.
