Bring a friend, your spouse, or significant other to help celebrate! March is Women’s History Month! We are celebrating inspirational women with a luncheon and silent auction benefit organized by the women of local United Methodist churches, but all are welcome!
Proceeds from the luncheon and love offering go toward funding *L.I.F.E., a mission of the First United Methodist Church to help fund lunches for economically disadvantaged children in Mesquite.
The guest Keynote Speaker is Monica Shaw, local author of “The Rainwater Secret“. This is the story of her great aunt who became a missionary after the death of her mother in order to teach leper children in Africa.
*About 80% of MISD children are on free/reduced lunch programs. However each day, children are turned away at the end of the lunch line and their hot lunch is thrown out in front of them (Federal guidelines) because they are not current on paperwork or their parents cannot even pay the reduced amount of 40¢ per day. They are handed a cold cheese sandwich and milk. For many kids, this is their only hot, balanced meal of the day. MISD has stated that L.I.F.E. will able to set up an account to cover the gap as needed. Your contribution to this program is greatly appreciated. We are starting with a single school and hope to expand to reach all MISD schools.
